Learn what bounce rate is, the causes of high bounce rates, and effective strategies to lower them to improve the quality of your website.
Bounce rate is a metric that measures the percentage of website visitors who immediately leave a page without engaging with anything, such as clicking a link, filling out a form, or viewing another page. This number is an important indicator for assessing content quality and user experience.
If your blog receives 1,000 visitors and 600 of them leave immediately after reading one page, then your bounce rate is 60%.
Why Can Bounce Rates Be High or Low?
A high bounce rate (above 70%) is often associated with irrelevant content or poor design.
A low bounce rate (below 40%) indicates that visitors are interested in exploring more pages.
Important note: A high bounce rate isn't always bad! For example, the article "How to reset your Instagram password" might have an 85% bounce rate because visitors immediately find the solution and leave without further clicks.
Bounce rate formula:
(Number of "Single-Page" Sessions ÷ Total Sessions) × 100%
Description:
"Single-Page Session": Visitors view only one page in a single session without any interaction (clicking, scrolling, etc.).
Total Sessions: All visits to a website within a specific period.
